Saheed Vassell, 34, was fatally shot by the police responding to 911 calls reporting that Vassell was holding a gun, after he had been seen pointing a silver pipe at passers-by on the streets of Crown Heights.
When officers arrived at the corner of Utica Avenue and Montgomery Street, they encountered Vassell, who matched the description provided by the 911 callers.
Vassell then “took a two-handed shooting stance and pointed an object at the approaching officers,” the NYPD’s chief of department has said.
A total of 10 shots were fired by four different officers striking Vassell several times.
